Hey everyone! Wow! The UNICO:AWAKENING campaign has officially been funded in under 24 hours! Thank you all so much. Today has been absolutely thrilling, and I’m so grateful to see the enthusiasm for UNICO: AWAKENING that’s flying around the web. Gurihiru and I have worked hard with Tezuka Productions to bring the project to this point, and to see your support in real time is both beautiful and humbling. Here's a quick rundown of highlights during the whirlwind that’s been the last 24 hours:
- IGN broke an exclusive story featuring Gurihiru’s GORGEOUS art on the opening pages of UNICO: AWAKENING! So, so beautiful.
- CBR ran a far-reaching interview with me, in which we discuss all things Tezuka, Unico, and this project.
- We sold out of Gurihiru’s shikishis (but don’t worry, we have plenty of amazing stuff left).
- Kickstarter made us a Project We Love. Why thank you, Kickstarter!
This is my first time working on a Kickstarter, and I had no idea what to expect, so I truly hope you take a moment and watch the video we made for it. We filmed it on site at Tezuka Productions in Tokyo, which was like a shrine to the God of Manga. We captured some really wonderful quotes on camera from those who have carried Tezuka’s legacy into the future. Trust me, it’s worth a watch.
Something else about me you may not know is that, perhaps unsurprisingly, I’m a big fan of all things Godzilla. So while we’re on Kickstarter, I recommend you check out this awesome ongoing campaign fort Godzilla & Kong: The Cinematic Storyboard Art of Richard Bennett from Legendary Comics, Toho Co., Ltd., and Clover Press. There’s only 3 days left to back it, so have a looksee!
Meanwhile, we have some amazing features lined up for UNICO:AWAKENING over the coming weeks, including interviews, insights, and more! Also, just a heads up that we have made a conscious decision not to have stretch goals so that backers won’t have to continue to update their pledges.

みなさんこんにちは！ ユニコ: 目覚めのおはなしは、24時間経過前に目標金額達成しました！ 心より感謝いたします。今日はとてもドキドキした１日でした。皆さんが熱心に“ユニコ: 目覚めのおはなし”を応援してくださり、ネット上で話題にしてくれてとても感謝しています。グリヒルと私は手塚プロダクションとともにここまでまとめあげるのに一生懸命努力をしました。ですので、皆さんのサポートをリアルタイムで見ることができるのはとても美しい光景であるとともに、頭が下がる思いでもあります。ここで過去24時間の出来事をお伝えできればと思います。いろいろなことがありました：
・IGNにて、グリヒルによる素晴らしい“ユニコ: 目覚めのおはなし”プロローグのページが独占的に掲載されました。とても美しいです。
・CBRにて、ファンのためのインタビューに答えました。“ユニコ: 目覚めのおはなし”の脚本担当、サミュエル・サッティンが、手塚、ユニコそしてこのプロジェクトについて話しています。
・グリヒルによる色紙が完売しました(でも安心してください、まだまだ素晴らしい返礼品が残っています)。
・キックスターターがProject We Loveに認定してくれました。ありがとうございます、キックスターター！
・すでに000人以上の支援者が最初の２４時間で集まりました。
キックスターターを立ち上げるのが初めてで、どんなことになるのか想像できませんでした。ですので、このために作ったビデオを見ていただけるとありがたいです。東京の手塚プロダクションに伺いこのビデオは撮影されました。手塚プロダクションのオフィスはまるでマンガの神様の祭壇のようでした。手塚先生の意思を受け継ぎ未来へとつなぐ方々の素晴らしいコメントをいただくことができました。是非ご覧ください。

この先もまだインタビューや本の内容についてなど、いろいろと公開される予定です。また、先にお知らせしておきますが、今回はストレッチ・ゴールを設定しないことにしました。そうすることで、支援されている方が返礼品についてさらに悩んだり変更する必要もありませんので。アメリカと日本のクリエイター、関係者スタッフ一同より心から感謝申し上げます。Go, Unico, go!
