Hey everyone! We are officially in the home stretch! With less than 48 hours to go in the UNICO: AWAKENING, we are approaching 2000 backers, and couldn’t be more grateful.

Here are a couple more highlights from the last week:

• I appeared on Saturday AM to talk about the campaign, and it was a blast.
  
• Also, io9 ran an incredible article about Unico: Awakening. If you’re so inclined, please do read and share.
  

It’s no secret that I also enjoy promoting other Kickstarter campaigns going on at this moment. For today, we have a really great comics project to showcase by a brilliant artist, Ramón K Pérez. Here’s a little more info:

Kukuburi: A Cotton Candy World is volume 1 of a storybook series from the Eisner & Harvey Award-winning cartoonist of Jim Henson's Tale of Sand.

Young Nadia’s mundane life is turned upside down when she stumbles into an unpredictable fantasy realm, a world that feeds off the subconscious - turning simple thoughts into dreams or nightmares - encounters strange denizens, all while being hunted down by the realm’s self-appointed king."

And since the campaign is coming to an end, I thought we might go out on a bang by featuring a couple more campaigns in the works.

One is the Madmaniverse Mod Metal lunch box.

Here’s a bit more info: The Madmaniverse Mod Metal lunchbox brings the adventures of Frank Einstein and pals to your lunch break! Pack sandwiches, junkfood, health food, crime fighting supplies, yoyos, comic books--anything you want in this NEW Madman metal lunchbox--the first in twenty years!

Lastly, I would like to link to a campaign called Slightly Exaggerated. I think the art is gorgeous, so I thought you might, too.

Here’s a bit more info: Slightly Exaggerated is a story set in a whimsical fantasy world where a dying treasure hunter must steal back a sacred gem from a crazed cult leader in a strange whimsical world. It's set in an over the top whimsical fantasy world filled with flying sea creatures, talking animals and lots of other crazy, fun stuff! This setting makes for some really fun treasure hunting adventures. Think Indiana Jones/Uncharted meets a Studio Ghibli world. This story deals with a lot of deeper, mature subjects and themes like dying, leaving a legacy, religion and questioning what you've been told.

今日は、とても素晴らしいコミックブックの企画を紹介します。

最後に紹介したいキャンペーンがSlightly Exaggeratedという作品のものです。アートが素晴らしいので、きっと皆さんにも気に入ってもらえると思いました。

Hey everyone! We are unbelievably grateful for all of your support thus far, and to celebrate reaching 1500 backers, we will be givingtwo free stickers to anyone who has backed a softcover copy of the UNICO: AWAKENING manga, or more! 

A huge thank you to all of you who are making this project a reality. As I’ve said before, nearly every additional dollar we raise ends up going to pay the artists, translators, letterers, and more that make this project possible.

In addition, here are a couple more highlights from the last week:

•  Mangasplaining, the one stop podcast for all things manga, ran an interview with me and a feature with Gurihiru’s process art. I had such a great time talking to Deb Aoki and Chris Butcher.
   
•  The exciting new site Popverse ran a great piece showcasing some amazing process art from Peach Momoko, Akira Himekawa, and tokitokoro.
   

Another thing I like to do is bring attention to other awesome Kickstarters that are going on at the moment. This one is pretty important, as it's attempting to help bring the historic magazine, THE BELIEVER, back home to where it started. This is a good cause, as this magazine has always given back. Here’s a little more info: Now, we're tasked with starting over as The Believer's publisher, and we're determined to make this new chapter of the magazine its most resplendent than ever. Packed with intelligent commentary, unexpected interviews, offbeat journalism, poems, art, book reviews, and more, The Believer is a nexus of literary culture. Its twentieth anniversary is next year, and we can't wait to start The Believer's third decade with you alongside us.

ここでまた、今行われている素晴らしいキックスターターを紹介したいと思います。今回のはかなり重要です、THE BELIEVERという歴史的な雑誌をはじまりの場所へと戻そうとしていますので。いつも支えてくれたこの雑誌ですから、とてもよいことだと思います。ここにもう少しだけ詳細を置いておきます：The Believerの出版社として新たにはじめることを義務付けられました、そしてこの新たな章をもっとも輝かしい時代にしようと固い決意をしました。知的なコメントや予想外のインタビュー、オフビートなジャーナリズムと詩、アート、書評など、The Believeは文芸文化の中核に位置します。来年は20周年を迎え、The Believerの次の10年を一緒にはじめることがいまから待ち遠しいです。

Hey everyone! Yesterday we reached an amazing milestone when we hit 1000 Backers! To celebrate, Gurihiru drew us some amazing new art!
 

We can’t wait to share Unico and Chloe’s new adventure with you, and want to express again, on behalf of the entire UNICO: AWAKENING team, how happy and grateful we are for your support. As I’ve said before, nearly every additional dollar we raise ends up going to pay the artists, translators, letterers, and more that make this project possible.

We’re continuing to see support for Unico pour in from around the world! Here are a couple highlight.

•  SKTCHD ran an incredible interview with Gurihiru, discussing their approach to art, and the reason why they first turned down the UNICO: AWAKENING project.  

• Comic Book Resources (CBR) also ran a great article detailing the campaign.

Hey everyone! I’m back with another update! It’s been an incredibly exciting, busy week with the UNICO: AWAKENING Kickstarter. Gurihiru and I are so grateful for your support thus far. I just want to express again, on behalf of the entire UNICO: AWAKENING team, how happy and grateful we are for your support. Nearly every additional dollar we raise ends up going to pay the artists, translators, letterers, and more that make this project possible.

It’s been incredible seeing all the Unico love in the US, Japan, and elsewhere around the world! For now, here are a few highlights over the last week.

•  Anime News Network ran an interview with me, in which I was able to discuss a lot of insider aspects of building the UNICO: AWAKENING project.
   
•  I had a great time talking to Dawn on the Anime Nostalgia podcast. Listen here.
   
• We sold out of our Drawn Into the Manga tier, but don’t worry--there’s plenty of great stuff left to snag, like prints, Artifacts, and of course, the book!
   
• We broke 800 backers, and are growing every day!

Also, one of the cool things about running a Kickstarter is that you find other Kickstarters that are going on at the same time that are super awesome!

We also discovered that Peach Momoko, who did three incredible prints for our campaign, also has a piece in another campaign right now, called GUMAA, by renowned artist JeeHyung Lee. 

It looks scary and awesome--check out this description for more info:

Gumaa: The Beginning of Her issues 1, 2, & 3 is the story of Khalida and the things she had to do to escape the hell she was in. Gumaa #1 introduces the reader to a hell set in the eighties. Khalida is a survivor and knows every decision she makes has consequences in the Luiciel crime family’s world. Gumaa: The Beginning of Her was written and created by Jeehyung Lee. Who she is and where did she gain this power only Jeehyung knows.

Also? Peach Momoko is amazing. If you aren’t already reading her DEMON DAYS series for Marvel, you should check it out.

ここで先週あったことをお知らせします：

キックスターターの素晴らしいことは、こちらがプロジェクトを進めている間にも、同時に他にも素晴らしいキックスターターを発見できることです！

今回３点の素晴らしいポスター用イラストを描いてくれた桃桃子が、もうひとつのキャンペーンでもイラストを描いています。名高いアーティスト、JeeHyung LeeによるGUMAAという作品です。とても怖そうで素晴らしそうです。以下、説明の引用になります：

Gumaa: The Beginning of Her、1〜3話は、Khalidaの物語で、彼女が過ごしていた地獄から脱出するためにどんなことをしたかが語られます。Gumaa #1では、80年代の地獄を読者に紹介します。Khalidaは生き延びてきたため、自分が選択したことがLuicielの犯罪一家との因果があることも知っています。

Gumaa: The Beginning of HerはJeehyung Leeにより創作され、脚本も担当しています。彼女が誰で、どこでその力を手に入れたのかを知るのはJeehyungだけです。

桃桃子は素晴らしいです。もし彼女がマーベルのために描いているDemon Daysシリーズを読んでいないのであれば、是非読んでみてください。

UNICO: AWAKENING UPDATE #2 - ONWARD AND UPWARD!

Good morning, afternoon and evening to backers of UNICO: AWAKENING around the world! In the last update, I let you all know that we had been funded in less than 24 hours. What I had yet to see was that Kickstarter made us their Project of the Day yesterday, and we were featured on their homepage! It’s a huge honor, and we continue to be blown away by the support for the campaign.

I’ve been doing lots of interviews. Interviews can be awkward, but Danica Davidson at  Otaku USA had some really amazing questions. I hope you’ll take a minute and read it and if you enjoy it, share it on social media so more people can discover UNICO: AWAKENING.

Seeing all of the support thus far has been truly wonderful, and we hope to be able to gain more as we go forward. When I first went to Tezuka Productions to meet the team there, I ended up entering what was in one part an office, and one part a museum. Though we couldn’t take too many photos, I was able to capture a couple, which I’ve posted below.

Although it’s not quite Unico-related, I wanted to give a shoutout to a really cool Kickstarter that’s going on at the moment to launch Fa Sheng: Origins #1 by Rylend Grant and Dexter Wee. The series is created by Peter Shiao and written by Rylend Grant, a screenwriter, author, and Ringo Award-winning comic book creator who is also an ordained Soto Zen Buddhist monk.  So while you’re here, I recommend having a look and supporting this project!

I’ve been running around like crazy this week so I might not have mentioned that you can follow our Unico Manga account on Twitter and you can follow the new and official Tezuka English Twitter account.

“ユニコ: 目覚めのおはなし”を支援してくださった世界中の皆様、おはようございます、こんにちは、こんばんは！　前回の報告で24時間経たずに目標金額に達成したことをお伝えしました。ただ昨日、キックスターターが“Project of the Day”にしてくれたのは後から知りました。なんとキックスターターのホームページに取り上げいただけたのです！とても名誉なことで、今回のキャンペーンを引き続き支えてくださっている方々に驚かされ続けています。

最近はたくさんのインタビューに応じています。インタビューによってはぎこちなくなることもありますが、Otaku USAのダニカ・デビッドソンさんはとても素晴らしい質問をしてくださいました。お時間ある方には是非読んでいただきたいです(英語のみになります)。そしてもし気に入っていただけたら、ソーシャル・メディアで広めていただき、より多くの人々に“ユニコ: 目覚めのおはなし”を知っていただくきっかけを作っていただければと思います。

ここまで皆さんに支援していただいたことは素晴らしいことだと思っています。そしてこの先、さらにいろんな方に支援をしていただければと思います。私がはじめて手塚プロダクションを訪問し、担当の方々とお会いしたとき、そこは会社であると同時に博物館でもありました。あまり多くの写真は撮れませんでしたが、撮れたなかからいくつかを下でお見せします。
